The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is primarily an ancient rite of healing of illness through the laying of hands, prayer and anointing with blessed oil in which the Church continues Christ's ministry   of compassion to the sick.  The sacrament can be received more than once and is beneficial to a person who is struggling with illness, in danger of death, or prior to a serious operation.
